All about wedding rings: gold or platinum?

Are you looking to purchase wedding rings but aren’t quite sure which material would be the best choice for you? Let’s take a closer look at the properties of different precious metals.

Gold

Gold is the most popular precious metal alongside platinum and palladium, and perhaps the most iconic of all precious metals. By creating gold alloys with other metals, it is possible to produce jewelry in various colors, which offers exceptionally great potential for designing wedding rings. Wedding rings and engagement rings are special pieces of jewelry with profound personal significance. As many people as there are, there are just as many different answers to what makes an ideal ring. Gold rings are a good choice of material because they can accommodate many different styles and designs.

Different colours of gold

When speaking of gold, most people think of classic yellow gold, which is similar in color to sunflower oil. In addition to yellow gold, there are also red, rose, green, white, and grey gold. These so-called alloys make it possible to give gold various color tones. An alloy is a combination of two or more metals. Since gold is naturally a very soft metal, other metals must be added to the gold alloy to make it easier to work with.

Gold alloys

The numbers 750, 585, 376, and 333 indicate how much gold the alloy contains. The maximum amount of gold is 1000, which means the alloy is 100% gold. 750 gold indicates that the alloy consists of 75% gold and 25% other metals. Red gold consists of pure gold, copper, and often silver as well. Yellow gold is an alloy that mimics the natural color of gold but actually contains silver and copper as well. Generally speaking, the less gold there is in the alloy, the more intense the color of the yellow gold becomes.

Platinum

Platinum is the highest quality metal in this list. Due to its elasticity, it is easy to shape and work with. Jewelry made of platinum is durable, which makes platinum wedding rings an ideal choice if you want wedding rings for eternal love. The jewelry has a light grey or white color.

Palladium

Palladium is also one of the platinum-group metals. Palladium is light grey in color and is very similar to platinum. It has properties similar to platinum, but it is a lighter and more affordable metal.
